ATV & UTV Tour FAQ

How long is the ATV tour in Tamarindo?

The ATV tour in Tamarindo lasts 2 hours of riding, and so does the UTV tour. Plan a little extra time for the free pickup from your Tamarindo hotel, the 15-minute drive to our base in Huacas, gearing up, and a short practice loop before you hit the trail.

How much does an ATV tour in Tamarindo cost?

ATV tours in Tamarindo start at $50 per vehicle, not per person. A single ATV (one rider) is $50 and a double ATV (driver plus passenger) is $85. UTV side-by-sides start at $220. Hotel pickup in Tamarindo, your guide, and safety gear are included.

Is hotel pickup in Tamarindo included?

Yes. Free round-trip pickup from your Tamarindo hotel is included with every ATV and UTV tour. We pick you up before the tour, drive you to our base in Huacas, and drop you back after. Staying somewhere else nearby? Tell us when you book and we'll help you plan.

Where does the ATV tour start?

Our ATV and UTV tours depart from our base in Huacas, Guanacaste, about 15 minutes from Tamarindo. You don't need to get there on your own: pickup from your Tamarindo hotel is included, and you get gear and a practice loop at the base before heading out.

What time do the tours depart?

Tours depart at 8:00 AM, 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM, every day we operate. Pick the time that suits you when you book: the calendar shows real-time availability for each departure, so you only see times with spots left. Your hotel pickup time in Tamarindo is coordinated around your departure.

What is the difference between the ATV and the UTV tour?

Both tours last 2 hours and go to the same destinations. On the ATV tour you drive your own quad, single or double with a passenger. The UTV is a side-by-side where several people ride together in one vehicle, ideal for families and groups who want to share the ride.

What do single and double ATV mean?

A single ATV carries one rider who drives. A double ATV carries two people: the driver and a passenger behind. Prices are per vehicle, so two people on a double ATV pay one vehicle price. You can mix singles and doubles in the same booking.

Where do the ATV tours go?

Our ATV tours ride through Huacas to Bahía Pirata or Puerto Viejo on the Guanacaste coast, on dirt roads, river crossings, and forest trails. Your guide picks the destination of the day based on the tide, the weather, and your group, so you always get the best ride.

Do I need experience to drive an ATV or a UTV?

No experience is needed. Most of our guests had never driven one before. You get a lesson and a practice loop before heading out, and you don't start the trail until you feel confident. Your guide sets a pace that works for the whole group.

Do I need a driver's license?

Yes, to drive an ATV or a UTV you need a valid driver's license and to be 16 or older; each driver shows it before setting off. If you don't have a license or are under 16, you can join as a passenger and enjoy the whole ride just the same.

Can kids join the ATV tour?

Yes, kids can join as passengers with an adult, on a double ATV or in the UTV, so the whole family rides together. Each tour shows its minimum age when you book. Kids cannot drive: drivers need a valid license and must be 16 or older.

Is there a minimum number of vehicles?

Yes, the ATV tour runs with a minimum of 2 vehicles per booking, for example two singles, or a single and a double. The UTV tour can be booked with one vehicle. You can add both tours to the same cart and check out once.

How far in advance should I book?

Book at least 24 hours before your tour. Spots fill up fast in high season, so booking a few days ahead gives you more choice of dates and times. You book online in a couple of minutes and get instant email confirmation. You pay on site on the day of your tour.

What happens if it rains?

The tour runs rain or shine. In fact, rain makes it even more fun with mud and swollen rivers. We only cancel if conditions are unsafe, such as heavy storms or lightning, and in that case we reschedule or refund you.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear dark clothes you don't mind getting dirty and closed-toe shoes or sneakers. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and swimwear for the beach stop. We provide the helmet and safety gear, and your guide gives you a driving lesson before the trail.
